An epic tapestry

This tapestry was made by my Dutch friend's grandmother. She had made
quite a few of these and her family are all grateful recipients of the
artworks. I especially love the colours of the piece.

Historical Whaling

So for the last few months I've been reading the 'Great American Novel', Moby Dick. I have recently learnt that it's a day time book, and not a read before bed book. Since you need to concentrate if you're not used to the dialogue from the 18th century, I find it better in the day- and now I'm really enjoying the book. I am using the book for some inspiration in one of my art projects and have been looking up old images from whaling voyages. I quite like the old prints. This is an image of a whale about to be harpooned. It is quite sad to read about whales coming to such a bloody and horrid ending, but the book does also glorify the monster of the sea.

Inspiring Etchings

When I was in Brugge, Belgium last year I found this amazing printmaking gallery. I haven't seen many galleries that focus only on prints so you can imagine I was pretty excited when I found this one. This is one of the artists I have since found and loved. The work is similar to my style in some ways. From what I've seen of the artists work, it seems he has an interest in the human figure. This two images are my favourites. Beards and Moustaches Exhibition

An exhibition is coming that you should not miss (if you're in Adelaide). A couple of friends from College are having an exhibition on Beards and Moustaches. This is me starting out with my book... It's only a baby book, so I shall be naming it a booklet. So far I'm almost done. It's taken the best part of half a day, but I have dawdled about a bit in that time, making dinner and such. I will post more in it soon.

Ornamental Designs

This image is from a textbook on Ornamental Design which was published in New York around 1900. It is a fantastic design, technically and beautifully.

The book is very comprehensive and goes through the elements of design from technical drawing, geometric drawing, right through to the history of ornament and the influence of nature. I love finding old books that are full of information on subjects such as design and art. I also love that it is written for people who like to read; it's not for those who wish to gloss over and only look at the pictures! Although even if you only do, it's still fabulous...

What more do you want? These days the internet is full to the brim with pictures, movies, websites, porn, rubbish but occasionally some interesting things. I hope to bring you some of the more 'interesting things' that I find throughout my life. It will also be here to showcase some of my own work, art and craft and the like...
